Dear God, it's so hard to say goodbye to our precious grand- daughter who reminds me of a lovely rosebud that was cut off at its stem and did not have a chance to grow into the beautiful rose blossom. She will grow into our hearts and minds instead. We will treasure the memories that both Monique's grandpa and I have.

One memory that I'd like to share, when Monique was about 12 years old, she came to spend part of her summer vacation with us in California. I asked her if she would come and help me in my classroom. She said, "Yes, grandma, I'd love to."

One student named Amanda was a very shy little girl, but Monique seemed to know exactly how to get her to respond. Monique created and designed games for Amanda who responded joyfully. Monique seemed to have a gift of being able to reach the hearts of the shy, the reserved and those who needed to be helped.

Every summer we looked forward to her visits with us. She has become a very important part of our lives.

Dear Monique, we will miss you so much. We love you. Goodbye.
